Ms. Patrice Barnes was elected to Durham District School Board to represent Ajax, in 2014 and reelected in 2018. In this role, Ms. Barnes has served as the Co-Chair of the Diversity Steering Committee, Special Education Committee, Vice Chair of the Board of Trustee and Chair of Education Finance Committee. She has also represented DDSB as a Director with the Ontario Public School Board Association.

Ms. Barnes is passionate about inclusive education, success for all kids, and improving learning outcomes for those who are marginalized. She is actively involved in her community and has volunteered and been a part of many events and committees representing her community.

Ms. Barnes was born and raised in Jamaica and immigrated to Canada when she was 18. As an advocate for diversity, she is often called upon to share her experiences at special events and conferences.
